Richard Jones
Ex-politician, Rainforest Ceramics, co-founder Greenpeace Australia
Richard Jones was a co-founder of Greenpeace Australia in 1978, and re-started Simply Living magazine with a circulation of 35,000. He was elected as a Democrat Member of the NSW Legislative Council in 1988 and stayed for fifteen years, negotiating to save old growth forests, create new marine parks, protect Aboriginal rights and represent battlers from all walks of life.
Together with singer Sting, he was a founding member of the Australian Rainforest Foundation, which created the giant Xingu national park in the Brazilian Amazon. After his parliamentary term ended in 2003, he returned to ceramics and currency runs Rainforest Ceramics, which donates a portion of each sale to the Rainforest Trust, having so far helped save thousands of acres of rainforest in Sumatra and Peru.
