Malaika Okoth
Youth leader in technology, creative arts and social justice
Kenyan Australian born, Malaika Okoth, has grown up navigating three different languages: Luo, Swahilii and English. Based in regional Australia, the Northern Rivers, yet also with extensive travels to Kenya, Uganda, Sri Lanka, China, Singapore, PNG, NZ and Malaysia, this 15 year old has some unique perspectives on the world. Malaika is interested in the cross section of technology, creative arts and social justice and wants to work helping others who are disadvantaged. In Australia everyone comments how dark her skin colour is, in Kenya everyone comments how light she is. In China everyone thinks her hair looks like caterpillars and in Australia she is often mistaken as a boy because of her short Afro hair. There is a lot more to this young woman than how she is perceived and it is an exciting time to see her voice emerging and how this generation will shape the future.
